Wood peckers

Question
This will be my first winter for my bees in national wooden hives in an out Aipary, any advice on how to protect them from wood peckers? What works the best?

Haven't had any experience with woodpeckers myself, but iv heard that wrapping the hive in a damp proof membrane can help.

Cheers Mike, I have also seen this advice in Roger Patterson's bee keeping book, I believe there are wood peckers near my out Aipary.
